1. It is our desire to provide a scholarship to all qualified applicants. In an effort to do that, we reserve the right to divide larger scholarships into more smaller ones, or combine smaller scholarships in order to make awards be more equal in value.

2. Persons wishing to donate to the church scholarship fund are encouraged to do so, but scholarship recipients will be determined by the Scholarship Committee.

3. If the Scholarship Committee decides to give a higher award to an individual, it should be for those preparing for a church-related career or for those who have demonstrated spiritual leadership.

4. Scholarship awardees are strongly encouraged to participate in “Scholarship Sunday” at First United Methodist Church in-person or via a short video. Scholarship Sunday is April 27, 2025.

Guidelines

FUMC Scholarship

1. Applicants must be a member or an active participant of First United Methodist Church, Winfield KS.

2. Staff and their immediate family members are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

3. Scholarships are available for qualified undergraduate applicants on an annual basis. Qualified applicants who are seeking a scholarship for post-graduate studies are eligible to receive one scholarship only. Scholarship awards may be received for a combined total of 5 years.

4. Students seeking graduate education in vocational ministry will be eligible for repeated scholarships while doing graduate work.

5. Applicants will be required to write a short statement about what their faith means to them, and their educational goals as they relate to their faith journey now and in the future.

6. Applicants are encouraged to attend worship regularly. Applicants are asked to give a written account of their involvement at First United Methodist Church or a United Methodist Church in their local community.

7. Applicants are required to include with their application, a letter of personal character reference from a non-staff, non-family member that has been written during the current school year.

8. The number of qualified applicants and available funding will affect the amount of the awards given.

9. Applications must be typed or printed legibly. Please make sure that all items are completed. Online applications are available at www.winfieldfumc.org. Click on Get Connected, then Scholarships to get started. To receive a Word document that can be completed and returned as an attachment, email amber@winfieldfumc.org.

10. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline.
